The reverse shows the portrait of King Charles III as well as the weight, fineness, denomination and year of issue. Edgar Allan Poe (1809-49) was an important poet, author and critic and played a central role in American Romanticism and Gothic horror. He is considered one of the most famous figures in American literary history. Although his life was relatively short, Poe left a lasting impression in various literary genres. These include science fiction, detective stories and, in particular, tales of mystery and the macabre. One of his most famous works, “The Raven”, was first published in January 1845. This narrative poem deals with themes of death, loss, grief and endless devotion. It describes the lamentations of a young scholar who is deeply shaken by the death of his beloved partner and is haunted by a talking raven. The poem is particularly known for its melancholy tone and the haunting refrain of the raven repeating “Nevermore” over and over again. This work brought Poe great fame and is considered by many to be one of the most outstanding poems in the world. The **Raven silver coin in Black Proof** is **limited to only 299 pieces worldwide** and is delivered in the original wooden box including a numbered certificate of authenticity.
