His travels and research resulted in several works on the fauna of Australia, including coloured illustrations of the Blue-Breasted Fairy-Wren. This small songbird is native to Australia and is mainly found in southern Western Australia and on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. The males are particularly striking with their bright blue head and breast plumage as well as chestnut-coloured shoulder patches, while females and juveniles are predominantly brownish in color. Blue-Breasted Fairy-Wrens prefer dry scrubland and eucalyptus woodland and feed mainly on small insects and other invertebrates.
