Born in Nice on July 13th, 1927, Simone Veil was a French politician and Holocaust survivor. Along with her sister and mother, she was deported to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp during World War II. Along with her sister Milou, she survived the death march to the Bergen-Belsen in 1945. Simone Veil left her mark on the country not only as a Holocaust survivor, but also participated in a wide variety of political roles in the public state. As French Minister of Health from 1974 to 1979, she brought the famous law on abortion to a vote. In addition, Veil participated in European politics as a member of the European Parliament and later as their president.
