1852 Type II Adelaide Pound PCGS AU58
Historically important, the 1852 Adelaide Pound will always have a place in every coin collection as Australia’s first gold coin. It is also unique as the only coin issued in South Australia. The example photographed above is from a small hoard dispersed by an organisation via a Sydney and Melbourne auction house in a few years ago. All the coins, including this one, have an original dusty bloom and weak strike, but overall lovely eye appeal. The present coin is one of the more affordable examples from that hoard. Professional Coin Grading Service is the global leader in coin authentication and grading. With over 60 million coins graded and counting, PCGS is trusted by collectors, dealers, and investors to certify authenticity, protect value, and elevate market confidence. This is a direct conversion of the 70-point PCGS grade to a 10-point scale, intended to present the grade in a more intuitive format for newer collectors. It is not our personal opinion or an attempt at regrading the coin to a different standard.
