They were the first African American pilots to fly for the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. The Tuskegee Airmen included 1,000 pilots and more than 15,000 support personnel. The **Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site** is located in Tuskegee in the U.S. state of Alabama. The historic site commemorates the accomplishments of the Tuskegee Airmen. The design of this commemorative coin shows a pilot at the Morton Field flight training facility. Two P-51 Mustangs are visible in the air in the background. The edge of the coin is bordered by the inscriptions "TUSKEGEE AIRMEN," "THEY FOUGHT TWO WARS" - this statement refers to fighting in World War II and racism at home - , "ALABAMA," "2021" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The reverse of the quarter dollar traditionally features an effigy of George Washington, as well as the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "LIBERTY", "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "QUARTER DOLLAR".
