In 1891, the Canadian physician James Naismith was commissioned to invent a new indoor sport and subsequently developed the team sport known today as "basketball". The **'Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame'** was built in 1959 in Springfield, Massachussetts, to commemorate James Naismith. The motive of the coin for the 60th anniversary shows three basketball players with outstretched arms trying to reach the ball. The net of a basketball hoop forms the background of the motive. The inscriptions "LIBERTY" AND "IN GOD WE TRUST" as well as the year of issue "2020" are also included in the design. The reverse depicts a basketball about to pass through the basket. Above the ball are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and the denomination "ONE DOLLAR".
