There, his "great hero" Harry Potter freed him from his master Lucius Malfoy, thus helping him to his freedom. He was always very helpful and, as usual for house elfs, spoke of himself in the third person. Dobby died for Harry and his friends in the seventh part to free them out of the Death Eater's prison. He was happy to pass away as a free elf in the company of his friends. To honor his friendship to the elf, Harry buried him near Shell Cottage, digging the grave without magic.
