The reverse features the portrait of King Charles III with the inscriptions "NEW ZEALAND", ".9999 Au .25oz", "CHARLES III" and "2024". The great spotted kiwi is also known as the **roroa** and is one of the largest kiwi species found in New Zealand. Its natural habitat is the north-west of the South Island, particularly the Kahurangi, Paparoa and Arthur's Pass National Parks. On the eastern shore of Lake Rotoiti in Nelson Lakes National Park, the Rotoiti Nature Recovery Project (RNRP) has created a 5,000-hectare forest area in which intensive predator control is carried out to provide a safe home for the roroa and other endemic species.
