This **gold coin** is dedicated to the **Marquis de La Fayette** (Marie-Joseph Motier, Marquis de La Fayette, 1757-1834) who fought alongside George Washington in the American War of Independence (1775-1783). La Fayette's return to Boston and his participation in the Virginia campaign contributed significantly to the capitulation of the British and the achievement of American independence. The motive of the gold coin whose design is based on an old medal, shows the Marquis de La Fayette in profile. Additionally, the denomination **"50 EURO"** is shown. On the reverse of the coin is the frigate "Hermione" on which La Fayette traveled to America. The upper part of the coat of arms shows lilies, which should remind of the monarchy. The year of issue 2020 is also included in the design. The limited gold coin in proof quality is delivered in the original box including a certificate of authenticity.
