This exquisite 1987 proof gold 1000 Yuan Panda is crafted with 12 oz. of .999 pure gold, and has been graded by NGC as a Proof 68 Ultra Cameo. This means that it boasts a sharp strike with full original luster, and has no more than four, lightly-scattered, contact marks or flaws. This coin is an excellent addition to any coin collection. The Gold Panda series of coins, which began in 1982, is highly sought after by collectors. Each size in the Gold Panda collection is .999 pure Gold, and the traditional reverse design features the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests in the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, as well as the year. The obverse showcases a seated Panda with cub, denomination, and gold weight. The 1987 12 oz. gold 1000 Yuan Panda is the second coin in this size to be minted. It followed the 1984 1000 Yuan gold coin, and was quite popular upon its release, with a reported mintage of 4,000.
