The **gold coin** is dedicated to the diversity of nature as found in the Gesäuse National Park. The protected area, which has existed since 2002, is the youngest of Austria's six national parks. Left to its own devices, nature there allows many countless species of animals and plants to thrive and live freely. In total, over 195 endemic animals and 30 endemic plant species can be found in the Gesäuse National Park. The motive depicts an alpine salamander in the foreground, which seems to crawl across the coin design. The so-called Gesäuseeingang can be seen in the background, as well as the river Enns and the Great Ödstein in the background. The inscription "GESÄUSE" additionally refers to the Austrian national park. On the reverse is a dainty feathered carnation - this is an endemic flower that occurs in the Gesäuse National Park. Other representations of this flower are shown in the background. The inscriptions "REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH", "2022", "50 **EURO**" and the Latin name of the flower, "Dianthus Plumarius Blandus", are also included in the coin design.
