Hourglass dolphins (Lagenorhynchus cruciger) are one of the least researched dolphin species. They prefer cool habitats and are native to Antarctic and sub-Antarctic waters. The name of these dolphins from the genus of short-beaked common dolphins is based on their characteristic black and white body markings, which are reminiscent of an hourglass.
