2010 Quarter Sovereign Gold Proof Coin
Gold proof Quarter Sovereign, minted in 2010 from a limited edition presentation of 4,546 pieces. Though the modern 'full' Sovereign has been around since 1817, The Royal Mint only began striking Quarter Sovereigns in 2009. These fractional Sovereigns are struck in 1.99 grams of 22-carat gold: exactly a quarter of the gold content of a full Sovereign. This example, from the second year these coins were issued, features the classic Saint George and the dragon design, which has long been featured on larger coins in the Sovereign family. This is paired with a modern portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, as used on British money between 1998 and 2015. This pre-owned proof Quarter Sovereign comes in its original presentation case from The Royal Mint with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
