Description United Arab Emirates 500 Dirhams, were issued in 1976 to commemorate UAE 5th National Day. The UAE National Day is celebrated on 2nd December each year, it is also known as Eid Al Etihad. The former Trucial States were a collection of sheikhdoms that were under British protection until 1971. United Arab Emirates was formed when six of the sheikdoms joined together. The obverse of the coin features the portrait of His Highness Sheikh, Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who served as President of UAE since the formation and as Ruler of Abu Dhabi. He was highly respected due to his commitment to his people and dedication to humanitarian work. The reverse of the coin features the Arabic inscription FIFTH ANNIVERSARY THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES.
