Description Two Ounce Gold Australian coins are a mixture of either Australian Nugget/Kangaroo or Lunar Nugget, both made by the Perth Mint. The Australian Lunar Series was first introduced in 1996, which celebrates the animals of the ancient lunar zodiac. The Australian Nugget, also known as Kangaroo, has been produced since 1986 with an annually changing design. During the timeframe of 1986-1988 the coin featured the traditional nugget. From 1989 onwards the coin has featured different species of Kangaroo, a recognisable emblem of Australia, with Queen Elizabeth II on the reverse.
