Slabbed One Ounce Gold White Lion of Mortimer 2020 (PR69DCAM)
Description Slabbed One Ounce Gold White Lion of Mortimer (PR69DCAM) dated 2020. There was a grading system from the 1940s that ascribed a number between 1 and 70 to each coin (70 being mint condition). Dr William Sheldon’s scale worked on the basis that a coin graded at 70 would be valued at 70 times more than the value of a coin graded at 1. This scale forms the basis of the grading system today. **PR** denotes Proof coins. **DCAM** stands for Deep Cameo, where proof coins display even frosting on both sides of the coin. The slabbed White Lion of Mortimer forms one of 10 designs in the Royal Mints: Queen’s Beast proof range in recognition of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, when she surpassed Queen Victoria as the longest reigning Monarch. The White Lion is the second lion to appear in the series, however this lion represents discipline and loyalty. The shield is held by the lion and displays a white rose encircled by a golden sun, this was deemed to be a good luck in battle and was an important badge to Edward IV. The White Lion is another beast that came to the Queen through Edward IV, this originated from the heiress of the Mortimers, his grandmother.
