Slabbed Half Ounce Gold Britannia 2017 – 30th Anniversary (PF69 ULTRA CAMEO)
Description Slabbed Half Ounce Gold Britannia, 30th Anniversary Privy Mark (PF69 ULTRA CAMEO) dated 2017. There was a grading system from the 1940s that ascribed a number between 1 and 70 to each coin (70 being mint condition). Dr William Sheldon’s scale worked on the basis that a coin graded at 70 would be valued at 70 times more than the value of a coin graded at 1. This scale forms the basis of the grading system today. **PF** denotes Proof coins. **ULTRA CAMEO** means that the fields are deeply mirrored and the devices are heavily frosted for bold contrast on both sides of the coin. This coin bears a new reverse design to the normal Britannia portrait. First minted in 1987, the Britannia was a major development in British gold coinage. The new design, by Louis Tamlyn, shows a modern Britannia. Holding her ancient warrior attributes – spear, crested helmet and shield – she represents a sign of stability and a long standing emblem of a nation. She holds both her spear and shield with strength. Her silhouette is incorporated with Great Britain and her flowing robe is actually Britain itself. The obverse of the coin features Jody Clark’s portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The coin also features the anniversary trident mink mark and the number 30.
