Description Queen’s Beast Two Ounce Silver White Lion of Mortimer were made in 2020 and was the eighth of ten designs in the Royal Mints: Queen’s Beast bullion range. This range is in recognition of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, when she surpassed Queen Victoria as the longest reigning Monarch on the 9th September 2015. These will feature the ten heraldic beasts that stood guard at Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. The original casts are now held in the Canadian Museum of History in Quebec. The White Lion is the second lion to appear in the series, however this lion represents discipline and loyalty. The shield is held by the lion and displays a white rose encircled by a golden sun, this was deemed to be a good luck in battle and was an important badge to Edward IV. The White Lion is another beast that came to the Queen through Edward IV, this originated from the heiress of the Mortimers, his grandmother.
