One Ounce Gold Queen’s Beast Falcon of the Plantagenets 2019
Description Queen’s Beast Falcon of the Plantagenets 2019 is the sixth of ten designs in the Royal Mints’ Queen’s Beast bullion range. This range celebrates the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, celebrating her becoming our longest reigning Monarch in 2015. The coins feature the ten heraldic beasts that stood guard at Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. The original casts are now held in the Canadian Museum of History in Quebec. The Falcon was chosen by the Plantagenet King Edward III, this was to embody his love of hawking, it was then used as the Royal Badge of his grandson Richard II. The falcon, which symbolises single-minded determination, sits upon a golden fetterlock, which is open slightly, this is to symbolise Edward’s claim to the throne. In later times, the House of York and Lancaster were unified by Henry VII, which led to the Falcon being adopted by him. The Falcon later became an established royal beast by the reign of Elizabeth I and has featured on coats of arms ever since. These coins are preowned.
