Description This Proof £2 gold coin celebrates the 200th Anniversary of the Steam Locomotive. During the period of the Industrial Revolution, countries like Britain became more urbanised and the development of the steam engine played a crucial role. In the beginning of the 19th century Richard Trevithick devised the first stream-driven locomotive engine. The reverse of the coin features his “Penydarren” steam locomotive, enclosed by a cog wheel design and the obverse depicts the fourth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This coin comes in a plastic capsule with original Royal Mint box and certificate of authenticity. Made in 2004, this coin had a limited mintage of 1500.
