Description This proof silver £5 coin, dated 1947-1997, marks the Golden Wedding Anniversary of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip and is one of 33,689 coins struck. The pair first met in 1934 and got married on the 20th November 1947 at Westminster Abbey. The wedding was recorded and broadcast by BBC Radio, 200 million people around the world watched and 2000 guests attended the ceremony. Following the ceremony, the newlyweds went onto the iconic balcony at Buckingham Palace, to wave to huge crowds. The Queen and the Duke celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1997, celebrations included a lunch at banqueting House in London, a gala concert at the Royal Festival Hall, a service of thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey and a trip to the House of Lords for a celebratory dinner hosted by the Privy Council. The reverse of the coin depicts a pair of shields, The Royal Arms and the arms of the Duke of Edinburgh. A crown and anchor is featured along with their anniversary dates. The obverse of the coin features a double portrait of Elizabeth II and Phillip. The coin comes in a plastic capsule, along with original Royal Mint box and certificate of authenticity. These coins benefit from being Capital Gains Tax (CGT) Free. All UK gold and silver bullion coins manufactured by the Royal Mint are legal tender and are exempt from Capital Gains Tax.
