Description This proof quarter ounce 2 coin set is from the Altius Gold Series and forms part of the Olympic coin programme of the London 2012 Games. The designs of Juno and Apollo, make up two of 9 designs inspired by the official motto of the Olympic Games: Citius, Altius, Fortius meaning Faster, Higher, Stronger. The reverse designs of the Altius Gold coins were designed by the sculptor, John Bergdahl. One coin features Queen of the Gods, Juno, representing Pole Vaulting, along with the official Olympic rings. Pole Vault is one of the most technical of athletic events, which is linked to her courage and resilience. The other coin features the God of the Sun, Apollo, representing Rhythmic Gymnastics, a combination of ballet, dance and gymnastics. This was due to Apollo being famous for driving chariots of fire across the sky. The obverse of the coins feature the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Elizabeth II. Both coins are struck to a proof finish in 22ct gold. This set comes in the original Royal Mint box and outer box, with certificates for each coins. These coins benefit from being Capital Gains Tax (CGT) free and VAT free. All UK gold and silver bullion coins manufactured by the Royal Mint are legal tender and are exempt from Capital Gains Tax.
