Elizabeth II acceded to the throne in 1952 and was crowned on 2 June 1953, bringing the world together in celebration. Huge crowds lined the streets of London to watch the procession of coaches escorting the royals and the Queen to Westminster Abbey. Millions of people around the world tuned in to the ancient ceremony, as it was the first Coronation to be televised. Her Majesty was committed to serving the British people and the commonwealth and was the longest-reigning monarch. The reverse of the coin features St Edward’s crown, atop a shield that incorporates ’65’, surrounded by golden wattle, the floral emblem of Australia. The obverse of the coin features Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
