Description This proof gold two coin set is a collaboration between the Royal Mint and the United States mint and reflects the importance of the milestone anniversary to both sets of countries. The coins reflect each country’s perspective of the Mayflower Voyage and it’s history. In England, during the late 1520s, a movement known as the Protestant Reformation was driven after the Pope refused Henry VIII an annulment (nullity) of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. The Church of England was formed following the split from the Roman Catholic Church with many separatist movements sprung up as a result. The transatlantic voyage brought migrants and Pilgrims from Europe to the New World, laying the foundations for a new way of life, which inspired the shaping of the United States of America. The United States Mint coin symbolises the intersection of two cultures – the Plymouth Colony and the Wampanoag people. The obverse of the coin features a Wampanoag family watching the Mayflower arrive, whilst the reverse features a Pilgrim woman and man, symbolising the start of a transition from monarchy to democracy. The reverse of the Royal Mint coin features the Mayflower sailing through the seas, the reverse features Jody Clark’s portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Each coin comes in a plastic capsule along with original boxes, outer sleeve and combined certificate of authenticity and informative booklet. These coins benefit from being Capital Gains Tax (CGT) and VAT free. All UK gold and silver bullion coins manufactured by the Royal Mint are legal tender and are exempt from Capital Gains Tax. All of our proof gold coins and sets are verified for authenticity by our experienced team. Any coins that fall short of our quality standards are not re-sold.
