Proof Gold Three Coin Sovereign Set 2005
Description This Proof Gold Three Coin Sovereign Set, dated 2005, consists of a Double Sovereign (£2), full sovereign and a half sovereign. Sovereigns were first struck in 1489 and is one of Britain’s most famous coins. In 1817 as part of a reform of coinage, the modern sovereign was introduced, with Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic portrayal of St. George slaying the dragon. However this year features a new portrayal of St. George and the Dragon, designed by Timothy Noad. The design concentrates on the drama between St. George, his horse and the dragon. St George’s shield was the focus, with the dragon having some freedom. The obverse of the coin features Ian Rank Broadley’s portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, her fourth definitive portrait. The coins in the 2005 three coin set, come in a plastic capsule, along with original Royal Mint box and certificate of authenticity. These coins benefit from being Capital Gains Tax (CGT) free. All UK gold and silver bullion coins manufactured by the Royal Mint are legal tender and are exempt from Capital Gains Tax.
