Description This proof gold sovereign, dated 2023, celebrates the Coronation of King Charles III. The obverse of the coin features the newly issued portrait of His Majesty the King and is the first official gold coin to feature the monarch crowned, following on from his coronation. In 1817 as part of a reform of coinage, the modern sovereign was introduced, with Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic portrayal of St. George slaying the dragon. The initials ‘BP’ can be found on the base under the hoof of the horse. The reverse of the coronation sovereign features the iconic image of St George and the Dragon. This coin comes in a plastic capsule with original Royal Mint boxes, certificate of authenticity and informative booklet. These coins benefit from being Capital Gains Tax (CGT) free.
