Description This proof one ounce gold coin, dated 2021, is part of the Royal Mint’s “Music Legends” series celebrating the best of British pop and rock music. This coin celebrates the English rock band, The Who. Musicians within the group have changed over time but Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey still form the backbone of the group. The design of the coin, by artist Henry Gray, portrays the key elements of The Who and what they were known for. The reverse of the coin focuses on ‘Pinball Wizard’ and features a Rickenbacker guitar as a pinball table. This was also the first guitar Pete Townshend destroyed on stage, this is shown with a smash through a speaker stacker. It also incorporates their frequently used icons such as the Union Jack Flag and mod logo. The obverse of the coin features Jody Clark’s portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The coin comes in a plastic capsule, with original Royal Mint certificate and boxes, along with an informative booklet about The Who.
