In 1817 as part of a reform of coinage, the modern sovereign was introduced, with Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic portrayal of St. George slaying the dragon. The obverse of the coins feature Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The £2 coin features a different design to the famous St. George and Dragon, to celebrate the Rugby World Cup. This proof gold four coin set also contains a complimentary gold plated medallion depicting the Royal Crown and the Chinese lunar year symbol.
