Description This proof gold commemorative three coin set, dated 2002, marks the 50th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death and the setting up of the Memorial Fund. The set contains three coins from the Channel Islands of Alderney, Guernsey and Jersey. The world was saddened to learn of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1997. Commonly known as the ‘People’s Princess’, she made it her goal to help the most vulnerable people in society. She reached out to the sick and suffering and supported those whose needs had been unrecognised or neglected. In September 1997, The Memorial Fund was created after the public donated millions of pounds, in the weeks after her death. The fund ensured that her work to help disadvantaged people over the world would continue. By the end of 2002, more than £50million was pledged to over 300 charities in order to improve millions of lives. Two thirds of the money is spent in the UK and one third goes to international projects. To commemorate both her life and work, each coin shares a portrait of Diana and the motto of the Memorial Fund ‘[The work continues](https://theworkcontinues.org/)‘. The coin from Jersey includes an English Rose and the coin from Guernsey includes a floral border consisting of daffodils, roses and lilies, for remembrance. Each coin comes in a plastic capsule, along with an original Royal Mint box and combined certificate of authenticity and informative booklet. These coins benefit from being Capital Gains Tax (CGT) free. All UK gold and silver bullion coins manufactured by the Royal Mint are legal tender and are exempt from Capital Gains Tax. All of our proof gold coins and sets are verified for authenticity by our experienced team. Any coins that fall short of our quality standards are not re-sold.
