The Aztec Sun Stone 5oz Silver Bar captures the Mesoamerican culture by featuring the intricate and detailed iconography of the Aztec sun stone. The obverse depicts the detailed design of the Aztec sun stone and at the center is the face of the sun god Tonatiuh. Surrounding the sun god are four rectangular panels representing the for previous 'suns' or world eras, which all had ended in catastrophe according to the Aztecs. Raditating outwards are rings representing the 20 day signs of the Aztec ritual calendar, solar rays, jade and turquoise symbols of preciousness, and two fire serpents encircling the whole round. The weight and purity are visible underneath the sun stone. The reverse of the bar features part of the sun stone design on the right hand side of the bar. The Aztec sun stone was carved from a single massive basalt disc during the reign of the Aztec Emperor Axayacatl, and is believed to have been completed by 1479 CE. It was created as a ceremonial and cosmological monument dedicated to the Aztec sun god Tonatiuh. The sun stone measures approximately 3.6 meters in diameter and weighs 24 metric tons.
