The S.S. Tilawa was a British-Indian passenger and cargo ship that tragically sank during World War II. On November 23, 1942, while traveling from Bombay to Durban, South Africa, the ship was hit by a torpedo from a Japanese submarine. The attack occurred in the Indian Ocean, about 930 miles northeast of the Seychelles, causing the ship to sink. Onboard were 958 people, along with precious silver bullion. Today, you have a rare chance to own silver bullion refined from the silver recovered from the wreckage of the S.S. Tilawa. The 1/2 oz S.S. Tilawa Shipwreck Silver Voyage Round is available now at BGASC. **Highlights:** - **Ships in a protective plastic flip, a tube of 20, or a box of 500!** - **Part of the [Tilawa Shipwreck Silver](https://www.bgasc.com/tilawa-shipwreck-silver-bullion) series!** - **Refined from silver salvaged from the S.S. Tilawa!** - Contains 1/2 Troy oz of .999 pure silver. - Obverse shows the S.S. Tilawa on its voyage to South Africa. - Reverse includes the S.S. Tilawa design. Each 1/2 oz S.S. Tilawa Shipwreck Silver Voyage Round offered here is made from silver that was recovered from the sunken S.S. Tilawa, which lay on the ocean floor for over 70 years. The silver was carefully salvaged and refined into these stunning rounds, now available in protective plastic flips, tubes of 20, or boxes of 500. **Obverse** The obverse of the 1/2 oz S.S. Tilawa Silver Round depicts the ship on its final journey across the Indian Ocean, with a detailed nautical chart in the background showing the intended route from Bombay to Durban. **Reverse** On the reverse, the 1/2 oz S.S. Tilawa Round highlights the rich history of the ship. Built in 1924, the Tilawa served the British India Steam Navigation Company as a passenger ship before being repurposed by the Royal Navy during World War II for cargo and troop transport. **History** In 2017, Argentum Exploration Ltd. undertook an ambitious mission to recover the lost cargo of silver from the Tilawa. With state-of-the-art technology, the team located the wreckage at a depth of nearly 9,200 feet, and the silver bars were brought to the surface for refinement. **Ordering** If you have any questions about silver rounds, feel free to ask.
