The 2024 St George & the Dragon 1kg silver coin, made of 999 fine silver. The epic battle between Saint George and the Dragon has been a staple of mythology and of British coinage for hundreds of years. According to the story, the dragon initially demanded tribute from a village, when they ran out of livestock and valuables they began offering a human sacrifice each year. This arrangement was tolerable for the villagers until a princess was selected as the next offering. At this point Saint George intervened, rescuing the princess and slaying the dragon. This coin marks the start of new series of St George and the Dragon coins from the Royal Mint. This first design by Jody Clark sees the knight driving his lance into the body of the beast which cowers below his rearing horse. The obverse of this coin uses the official portrait of His Majesty King Charles III by Martin Jennings. The 2024 1kg silver George & Dragon coin is the largest silver bullion coin produced by The Royal Mint, it has a face value of £500 making it **exempt from Capital Gains Tax** in the UK.
