In 2021, the United States Mint celebrated 35 years of the American Silver Eagle with a unique two-design release. Type 1 coins continued to showcase John Mercantis reverse, while Type 2 coins introduced a new reverse designed by Emily Damstra. The anniversary year also included subtle updates to the overall look of the Silver Eagle and Gold Eagle coins. Today, certified 2021 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coins are available at BGASC. **Highlights:** - **Comes with an individual plastic slab!** - **PCGS Blue label in the slab!** - **35th anniversary issue of Silver Eagles!** - Contains 1 troy oz of .999 pure silver. - The face value of $1 (USD) is backed by the US government. - Graded Mint State 70 by the Professional Coin Grading Service. - First Strike. - On the obverse is Walking Liberty. - The reverse features an American bald eagle. - New artwork by Emily Damstra. - First Type 2 issues in the series. All coins offered here have earned a Mint State 70 grade from PCGS. This grade indicates a coin with full mint shine and no visible marks. The PCGS Blue Label is commonly used for high-grade modern issues. First Strike coins were submitted for grading within 30 days of the Mints release date. **Obverse** The obverse features the classic Walking Liberty design by Adolph A. Weinman. Liberty walks toward the sunrise with oak and laurel branches in hand, wrapped in the American flag. In 2021, the Mint restored Weinmans AW initials to the lower-right area of the design. **Reverse** The reverse of the Type 2 coin shows a bald eagle flying with an oak branch in its talons. Emily Damstra created this new design after the Mint reviewed more than 30 different concepts. It replaces the heraldic eagle image that had been used since 1986. **History** The 2021 production year was the first time the Silver Eagle received a new reverse design. From January until June, the Mint struck coins with the original Mercanti heraldic eagle. Following a short break in production, the Mint released the Type 2 coins with the new reverse design in late June. **Ordering** If you have any questions, please contact BGASC at 888-992-4272.
