The 2002 quarter ounce gold Eagle is an official gold bullion coin of the United States; this 2002 1/4oz gold Eagle, which carries a face value of $10, was one of 62,027 produced in this year. The obverse design features Augustus Saint-Gaudens' image of Liberty, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, with 50 stars around the edge to represent each State. The reverse design of the American Gold Eagle is by sculptor Miley Busiek, and features a male Eagle carrying an olive branch flying above a nest. The US government guarantee the stated amount of actual gold weight in troy ounces. By law, the gold must be sourced from American mines.
