2023 JRR Tolkien Lord Of The Rings Two Pound Silver Proof Coin
Limited edition of 4,500! The official 2023 silver proof Two Pound celebrating the life of JRR Tolkein, one of England's greatest novelists. John Ronald Reuel Tolkien - author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings - was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa in 1892 and passed away in 1973. Fifty years on, the father of modern fantasy literature is joining a very small group of British authors to be celebrated on UK coinage with a £2 decorated with his distinctive monogram and lettering reading '1892 JRR TOLKIEN 1973 WRITER · POET · SCHOLAR'. This reverse engraving, by the noted Royal Mint designer David Lawrence, places Tolkein's fascinating monogram right in the centre. It's a combination of his initials: J, R, R and T and is surrounded by an aesthetically pleasing mosaic pattern. The edge reads 'NOT ALL THOSE WHO WANDER ARE LOST', which is a line from The Riddle of Strider from The Fellowship of the Ring. Complementing this stunning design is the UK coin portrait of HM King Charles III by Martin Jennings. Specifications of these collectable coins are a weight of 12.00 grams of sterling silver alloy (0.925 fine) and a diameter of 28.40 millimetres. During production, they're struck several times using hand-polished dies to give a striking proof finish, far superior to the finish on normal circulating coins. These collectable 2023-dated coins come in the original packaging from The Royal Mint, which consists of a presentation case and a numbered certificate of authenticity. Also included is a booklet packed with information and a protective capsule, designed to preserve the finish. Pre-order now to get this brand-new UK coin with free delivery.
