These highly sought after coins were minted from 1921-1928 and 1934-1935. Because they are so widely recognized, they are easy to buy and sell. Struck from .900 fine silver, the coin has an ASW of .7734 troy oz. The coin also carries a face value of $1. Each of these **Peace Silver Dollars** is graded **MS 64** by the grading company NGC. The origin of the idea to mint a coin commemorating peace is believed to have roots in Frank Duffield’s Numismatist Magazine article, penned in 1918. Duffield, a past ANA President, called for a “victory coin” to be issued in large quantities that it would never become rare. Sculptor Anthony de Francisci used his wife Teresa De Francisci as inspiration for the obverse design of Lady Liberty. Lady Liberty is shown wearing a radiate crown on her head while her loose strands of hair blow gently in the wind. The reverse design had initially featured an eagle perched on an olive branch and a broken sword. The design of the broken sword, however, drew controversy because the public viewed it as a symbol of defeat even though the artist viewed it as a symbol of victory. After a news article railing against the design garnered much attention t in the New York Herald, the broken sword was removed and converted to an extra olive branch. **Coin Features:** - Random Year.
