The 2017 Krugerrand Premium Uncirculated 1oz Silver Coin was the first ever Silver Krugerrand minted by the South African Mint, and was released to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Krugerrand coin. The coin bears the same iconic design as the gold coin; the portrait of Paul Kruger, president of the old South African Republic, on the obverse of the coin, and the Springbok Antelope on the reverse, along with the year of minting and silver weight. A small privy stamp of the number 50 is also shown in a circle above the antelope. - Weighs 31.10g and is 999.0 fine silver. - Minted by the South African Mint. - Finished to Premium Uncirculated standard. - VAT free. - Dimensions: Diameter: 38.7 mm. These coins were limited to a mintage of only 1,000,000 coins. This was the first year the South African Mint has released a premium uncirculated Silver Krugerrand coin. First minted in 1967 by the South African Mint, the name 'Krugerrand' comes from the name of the president at the time; Paul 'Kruger', and the unit of currency of South Africa the 'Rand'. After it's conception at the end of the 60's, the Krugerrand was being minted at a rate of approximately 40,000 units per year, this continued to grow until 1978 when a record breaking 6 million coins were produced. As these coins are being sold on the second hand margin scheme, there is no VAT to pay.
