The obverse side of the coin features the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, its weight, fineness, denomination, and the coin's date of issue, along with the inscriptions "AUSTRALIA" and "ELIZABETH II". The reverse side features a horse galloping in a vast grassland, with mountain ranges in the background. A Chinese character for "horse" also appears on the reverse along with the inscription "Year of the Horse" and Perth Mint's traditional 'P' mintmark. The date range for this Year of the Horse ran from January 31, 2014 to February 18, 2015.
