1888 Melbourne Sovereign PCGS MS62
S-3867A, with first obverse and angled JEB. (This variety is described as "IEB" in the McDonald catalogue.) Of the two 1888-M sovereign varieties, this example, where the tip of the crown overlaps the edge denticles, is the rarest. The piece photographed above is the equal finest-graded by PCGS (6/20), and superior to the example in the Quartermaster Collection. It is also the finest example I’ve handled since 2007. RARE in this grade, and an essential piece to the [Jubilee Head Varieties Set on the PCGS Set Registry](https://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/australian-commonwealth/australian-gold/australian-victoria-jubilee-head-sovereigns-varieties-circulation-strikes-1887-1893/7510 "PCGS Set Registry").
