1887 Sydney Jubilee Head Sovereign PCGS MS64
S-3868A, with small, spread JEB. A “fresh” coin is one that is original, unwashed, uncleaned, and in the same condition as it was when minted. The coin photographed above is as fresh as I’ve seen them, with undulating cartwheeling lustre, clean fields, and a detailed and definite strike. Being the first sovereign of the new Jubilee design, it would not be far-fetched to say that this coin was put aside almost as soon as it was found in circulation, and has been out of circulation ever since. Overall, it is one of the best 1887-S Jubilee head sovereigns we’ve handled, and is the equal-third finest example graded by PCGS (8/22). Sourced from a generalist auction house in suburban Sydney. Professional Coin Grading Service is the global leader in coin authentication and grading. With over 60 million coins graded and counting, PCGS is trusted by collectors, dealers, and investors to certify authenticity, protect value, and elevate market confidence. This is a direct conversion of the 70-point PCGS grade to a 10-point scale, intended to present the grade in a more intuitive format for newer collectors. It is not our personal opinion or an attempt at regrading the coin to a different standard.
