1886 Melbourne St George Reverse Sovereign PCGS MS64
Coins, like people, have characters, and, just like people, some coins have better characters than others. The 1886M St George reverse sovereign is one of the more common dates of the young head sovereign series, but is known for its delicately-frosted effigy, undulant fields, and relatively sharp strike. Many coins have an almost proof-like appearance, and the fields can be suggestively cameo, too. On high-grade examples, hints of ghosting can be seen on both ’verses. Collectors seeking an example in PCGS MS64 for their type set would be hard-pressed to find a more affordable date in this grade. Equal-fourth finest graded by PCGS (6/20). Professional Coin Grading Service is the global leader in coin authentication and grading. With over 60 million coins graded and counting, PCGS is trusted by collectors, dealers, and investors to certify authenticity, protect value, and elevate market confidence. This is a direct conversion of the 70-point PCGS grade to a 10-point scale, intended to present the grade in a more intuitive format for newer collectors. It is not our personal opinion or an attempt at regrading the coin to a different standard.
