1858/9 Sydney Mint Overdate Half Sovereign PCGS AU50
All Australian half sovereign overdates are rare, but some are rarer than others. The present coin, an 1859 over 8, is a recent discovery, and is currently one of two known examples graded by PCGS (6/26). An ungraded example appeared in a Sydney auction in 2008. No other examples appear to have emerged in the last decade. If you’re a serious collector of half sovereigns or have a numismatic interest in early colonial coins, this half sovereign is an essential coin. Professional Coin Grading Service is the global leader in coin authentication and grading. With over 60 million coins graded and counting, PCGS is trusted by collectors, dealers, and investors to certify authenticity, protect value, and elevate market confidence. This is a direct conversion of the 70-point PCGS grade to a 10-point scale, intended to present the grade in a more intuitive format for newer collectors. It is not our personal opinion or an attempt at regrading the coin to a different standard.
