1885 Sydney St George Reverse Sovereign PCGS MS63
S-3858E. Although the catalogues don't show it, the 1885-S St George reverse sovereign is far harder a date than many collectors realise. PCGS has certified only seventeen pieces in MS62 or better (with remarkably *two* in MS65), and I have only handled two in Mint State in the last twelve years (the example here being the finest). This particularly coin is fresh, with flashy lustre on clean fields, and a reasonably good strike. There are one or two marks in the fields consistent with an MS63 grade, but they don’t distract the viewer from appreciating coin’s overall appearance. Very scarce in this grade and equal-third finest graded by PCGS (3/20). Professional Coin Grading Service is the global leader in coin authentication and grading. With over 60 million coins graded and counting, PCGS is trusted by collectors, dealers, and investors to certify authenticity, protect value, and elevate market confidence. This is a direct conversion of the 70-point PCGS grade to a 10-point scale, intended to present the grade in a more intuitive format for newer collectors. It is not our personal opinion or an attempt at regrading the coin to a different standard.
