Proof Gold £5 Crown – 2007 Diamond Wedding
Description This proof gold £5 Crown, dated 2007, marks the Diamond Wedding Anniversary of Her Late Majesty the Queen and Prince Philip. They first met in 1934, with their official engagement announcement in July of 1947. Four months later, the wedding took place in the historic Westminster Abbey. Their ceremony was recorded and broadcast by BBC radio, 200 million people around the world tuned in. Elizabeth’s wedding dress was designed by the Sir Norman Hartnell. Rationing measures were implemented following WW2, meaning she had to use clothing ration coupons to pay for her dress. Following the ceremony, they famously went onto the balcony of Buckingham Palace, to wave to the huge crowds that gathered. The couples marriage lasted over 73 years, making their marriage the longest of any British monarch. To pay tribute to the remarkable couple, the obverse of the coin features a double portrait of Elizabeth and Philip. The reverse of the coin takes inspiration from the North Rose Window of Westminster Abbey. The £5 Diamond Wedding coin comes in a plastic capsule, along with original Royal Mint box and certificate of aunthencity. These coins benefit from being Capital Gains Tax (CGT) free. All UK gold and silver bullion coins manufactured by the Royal Mint are legal tender and are exempt from Capital Gains Tax.
