Description This proof Gold £5 crown, marks the passing of 1000 years. The British Isles are positioned on a clockface with the hands set to twelve o’clock between the dates, marking the transition from 31 December 1999 to 1st January 2000. Edge inscription reads ‘WHAT’S PAST IS PROLOGUE’ taken from William Shakespeare’s *The Tempest,* recognising the years that are ahead. The obverse of the coin features Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The £5 crown comes in a plastic capsule along with an original Royal Mint box and certificate of authenticity. The Royal Mint also released the same coin in 2000.
