Proof Gold £5 – 65th Anniversary of the Coronation of Her Majesty The Queen
Description This proof gold £5 coin, dated 2018, celebrates the Sapphire Anniversary of Her Late Majesty The Queen’s Coronation. Elizabeth II acceded to the throne in 1952 and was crowned on 2 June 1953, bringing the world together in celebration. Huge crowds lined the streets of London to watch the procession of coaches escorting the royals and the Queen to Westminster Abbey. Her Majesty was committed to serving the British people and the commonwealth and was the longest-reigning monarch. Marking the 65th Anniversary of her coronation, the reverse of the coin takes inspiration from the Coat of Arms on Westminster Bridge. The iconic and traditional Royal Standard (the banner of arms of the monarch) was incorporated into the coat of arms. The Coat of Arms is surrounded by a wreath of oak and laurels and the Queen’s royal cypher crowns the arms. The obverse of the coin features Jody Clark’s portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
