Proof Gold £2 – The Shakespeare Histories
Description This proof gold £2, dated 2016, marks the 400th Anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare. The Royal Mint made three coins, consisting of three different designs, ‘Histories’, ‘Tragedies’ and ‘Comedies’. Britain’s most famous writer was born in Stratford-Upon-Avon in 1564, however much of his life remains unknown. His plays show us characters that reflect real-life situations that many have experienced. His tragedies tell of disasters and downfall, the histories reimagine events of the past and the comedies have happier endings. Shakespeare’s histories often told of blood and downfall, the design reflects this with a sword thrusting through a crown and represents drama that has unfolded in his tales of times past. The coin comes in a plastic capsule, along with original Royal Mint boxes, certificate of authenticity and informative booklet. These coins benefit from being Capital Gains Tax (CGT) Free and VAT free. All UK gold and silver bullion coins manufactured by the Royal Mint are legal tender and are exempt from Capital Gains Tax.
