Proof Gold £2 – RAF Centenary Spitfire 2018
Description This proof gold £2 coin, dated 2018, celebrates 100 years of the RAF with five official £2 coins. The RAF was formed in April 1918. The Supermarine Spitfire first flew in 1936 and entered service in 1938. It was one of the most famous aircraft ever to fly with the Royal Air Force. The Seafire was its naval counterpart, both went on to serve in every major theatre of WW2. Over 22,700 Spitfires and Seafires were built, many of which remain flying to this day. The reverse of the coin, designed by Richard and Neil Talbot, captures the beauty of the iconic Spitfire. The obverse of the coin features Jody Clark’s portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The coin comes in a plastic capsule, along with original Royal Mint boxes, certificate of authenticity and informative booklet. These coins benefit from being Capital Gains Tax (CGT) Free and VAT free. All UK gold and silver bullion coins manufactured by the Royal Mint are legal tender and are exempt from Capital Gains Tax.
