Proof Gold £2 – 350th Anniversary of the Guinea
Description This proof gold £2, dated 2013, marks the 350th Anniversary of the Guinea. Following George III’s accession to the throne, the Guinea was reimagined to a single crowned shield which resembled a spade and therefore took on the name ‘Spade Guinea’. Due to it’s popularity, the guinea did become the basis of a whole family of gold coins, of proportionate size and weight. During the reign of George III, more than 50,000,000 guineas were struck before switching to gold sovereigns. The reverse of the coin features a Spade Guinea design. The obverse of the coin features the portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The coin comes in a plastic capsule, along with an informative booklet, certificate of authenticity and original Royal Mint boxes. These coins benefit from being Capital Gains Tax (CGT) Free and VAT free. All UK gold and silver bullion coins manufactured by the Royal Mint are legal tender and are exempt from Capital Gains Tax.
