Proof Gold £5 – Restoration of the Monarchy
Description This Proof £5 Gold Coin, dated 2010, is in celebration of the 350th Anniversary of the Restoration of the Monarchy. Following the English Civil War in 1649, Charles I was executed and the monarchy was abolished and the country became a republic. Whilst Oliver Cromwell was leader, Charles II tried to regain his kingdom, most famously at the Battle of Worcester in 1651. It was here that he was defeated and went into hiding, in an oak tree. Both Houses of Parliament voted in favour of Chares’ reinstatement and Britain entered a golden era of progress in arts and science. The design of this coin includes references to the King’s famed hiding place, oak trees and oak apple flowers. The heraldic crown is featured above a floral design of English Roses and Scottish Thistles. The £5 coin comes in a plastic capsule with the official Royal Mint box and certificate of authenticity. These coins benefit from being Capital Gains Tax (CGT) free. All UK gold and silver bullion coins manufactured by the Royal Mint are legal tender and are exempt from Capital Gains Tax.
